THC and CBD

The marijuana plant contains many chemical called cannabinoids, and those used in medicine are Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinoid or THC and cannabidiol or CBD. The THC is responsible for the “high” when smoked or eaten, and the CBD is more for pain control, anti inflammatory action and other medical benefits and the two elements work together for enhanced or synergistic effects. Medical marijuana is used to treat a number of different conditions, including:

The qualifying conditions are listed elsewhere and designated by Florida law as those that allow a patient to be considered for recommendation for medical use marijuana by a certified physician. With proper documentation, the like and kind conditions are also the basis for the recommendation.

The CBD oil can be delivered by drops under the tongue, inhaled or vaped in a cartridge, eaten in edibles that are not legal in Florida, as a capsule or suppository , the later especially for severe nausea. Similar delivery systems are used for THC. Smoking marijuana is discouraged because of the dangers of inhaling tars and the other elements that make cigarette smoking dangerous

CBD is nonaddictive and does not create a high.

CBD may be effective for mental illnesses, pain, fibromyalgia nausea, seizures, high blood pressure, inflammation and may make chemotherapy cancer treatment more effective. There are few side effects. The FDA has approved dronabinol (Marinol, Syndros) and nabilone (Cesamet), man-made cannabinoids, to treat chemotherapy related nausea and vomiting when other nausea medications don’t work.
