Three Common Hemorrhoid Treatments

HET_ProcedureHemorrhoids are very common, and there are several treatments available to relieve symptoms and resolve the condition. When over the counter treatments do not work or when hemorrhoids continue to flare up, you might need to seek the help of a doctor for these common treatments. Which treatment your doctor decides to use to treat your hemorrhoids depends largely on what type of hemorrhoids you have and how severe they might be.

Hemorrhoid Energy Therapy (HET)

HET is a new hemorrhoid treatment that is based on new technology. In HET, pulses of energy are sent to the veins that feed the hemorrhoids so that these veins can be decreased in size, cutting off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid and causing it to reduce significantly or disappear. HET is used for internal hemorrhoids, and it is most effective for grade 1 and grade 2 hemorrhoids that are bleeding or prolapsed. There has also been success with grade 3 hemorrhoids.

Excision

If you have external hemorrhoids, these can often be treated with excision. In excision treatments, the hemorrhoid is removed surgically and the wound sutured. This is generally an outpatient procedure done with local anesthesia.

Dr Shapiro will be able to tell you the right treatment method for you based on your hemorrhoids anatomic location. Contact us today for more information or to schedule your initial examination.
